(in person!) corrected my assumptions about the URL she gave - it actually does tell you about the various versions, at least from the point of view of the publishers. And it says, like Johan says, that the Reina-Valera (1960 version) is the standard used by most Christians today. The Reina-Valera Antiqua was first published in 1569, making it roughly equivalent to the King James version, I would think, but I don't really know. There is also a 1995 version of the Reina Valera, but it doesn't say how it differs from the 1960 version.

Thank you both!Robin M.https://www.blogger.com/profile/10336915224193704866noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13642801.post-26083458709783105172007-03-10T17:00:00.000-05:002007-03-10T17:00:00.000-05:00In our Latino Mennonite congregation, everyone use...In our Latino Mennonite congregation, everyone uses Reina-Valera (1962?), to the point that when we read together, we're almost all reading in unison from this translation.

I like the resources at the American Bible Society's Spanish-language program, http://www.americanbibleespanol.org/Johan Maurerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13771067774042071617noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13642801.post-9367880915024749082007-03-08T19:05:00.000-05:002007-03-08T19:05:00.000-05:00Thanks Mary. Which are more literal, more accurate, more paraphrased? Are there clear biases in Spanish translations like there are in English translations? Which version would I be most likely to encounter in the U.S. versus Mexico or Colombia? I'm quite curious, because I think I'm going to buy one soon.Robin M.https://www.blogger.com/profile/10336915224193704866noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13642801.post-13891521873720273972007-03-08T16:36:00.000-05:002007-03-08T16:36:00.000-05:00From http://www.biblegateway.com/versions/ you can...From http://www.biblegateway.com/versions/ you can learn about the various Bible translations on their site. Then you can open, say, La Biblia de las Américas in one window and the New Living Translation in another and compare verse by verse. You can even listen to a reading while you follow along!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
