Quaker Heritage Day

Quaker Heritage Day is an annual event at Berkeley Friends Church.
This year it will be held March 4, 2006. The speakers will be Peggy Senger Parsons, founder and pastor of Freedom Friends Church and Margery Post Abbott, member of Multnomah Monthly Meeting, former Clerk of North Pacific Yearly Meeting, and author of the 1995 Pendle Hill Pamphlet "An Experiment in Faith: Quaker Women Transcending Differences"

The two of them are co-editors of Walk Worthy of Your Calling: Quakers and The Traveling Ministry . See here for a biography of each woman.

Here are some notes from Peggy's blog about the topics for Saturday:

God's Agenda For Us: Will We Cooperate?

Session 1 -- "We Have a Great Trailer -- How's the Movie?"
In signing on to be Friends, we are acknowledging that God's peace throws the conventional wisdom of the world into disorder and that transformation is dangerous and leads us into unsuspected ways.
Session 2 -- "A Fearless Faith"
When we are transformed in holy love, fear takes its rightful place. As we cooperate with God and are obedient we come to live truth more fully. Motivation for an action-based fearless faith comes both from knowing God's love and the undeniable truth that people are dying for want of what we have.
Session 3 -- "If Not Us -- Who?"
Cooperation with God also presses us to see the divine reality which we have ignored. In our "niceness" and idolatry there is much which needs to be rooted out and fall away in order for us to live freely in the power of the cross.

I heard the topic for Sunday's sermon will be "Dangerous Quakers."

Also, Peggy invited folks to get together to discuss the whole Convergent theme. She quoted me! I am so honored!

A quote from an email that's circulating around the Bay Area:
"Friends, if you do not come to this year's Quaker Heritage Day, your grandchildren will look at you reproachfully in years to come and you will slap your head and say "D'oh!" And if you do come, your grandchildren will perch starry-eyed on your lap and beg you to tell them again how it was when Peggy Parsons and Marge Abbott came to Berkeley. Not to be missed. Seriously. I wouldn't be sending out this email if I didn't mean it." from Pam C.
Saturday 3/4 9am-3:30pm, $20 requested donation to cover food (no one turned away), childcare provided
Sunday 3/5 10am-12:15pm
Berkeley Friends Church, 1600 Sacramento, near the Berkeley BART station
Bring 20 or so of your Spirit-hungriest F/friends, you will be well fed.

Robin, thanks for helpfully including an rsvp line with our phone number for those who want to come to Quaker Heritage Day. Good job. But it's even more convenient for us to take our pre-registrations by email to me.

We'd like to know the names of each person who's coming, as we'll pre-print name tags. We also need to know the exact count because we're serving lunch. And identify any children who'll need child care.

One last note: the event always has a bountiful tableful of Quaker books for sale. For some Friends it's where they buy their year's worth of new titles. Bring your wish list!

The link in Max's comment didn't work for me, so I will include his email address in my post.

It's looking like dinner on Saturday night for the blogger conversation - so let me know if you're available, I will send you the details!

Oh no, Joe. I'm so sorry to hear you're not coming. Have a great time abroad. One more reason we have to get together at FGC!
