QUIP in North Carolina 2008

I'm going to the annual meeting of QUIP: Quakers United in Publishing. The theme this year is "Publishing With Immediacy: Periodicals, Web pages & Blogs." I've been invited to speak on a panel about Quaker blogging as ministry - to people who are mostly involved in print media.

The meeting will be from April 24-27, 2008. I think this is a working link to their registration page, which is the one place you can see at least a little of the agenda for the weekend. There are still spaces available, so register soon if you want to come.

The conference will be held at a state park near Greensboro, North Carolina. I've never been to North Carolina, but the end of April is a pretty beautiful time of year to visit almost anywhere in the United States. I know a couple of students at Guilford, and I have enjoyed reading the blogs of some Friends in the area, and I'm looking forward to visiting the Eco-Everyday folks in person.

I also recently found out that the Representative Committee of North Carolina Yearly Meeting (Conservative) will be that same weekend in Greensboro. I'm looking forward to connecting in person with some of the Conservative Friends I've been corresponding with for the last couple of years.

If you're in the neighborhood, broadly defined, would you like to get together?

Wonderful Robin! As it stands now, I will be at Representative Body. You'll get to meet some of our more weighty Friends there...wonderful and inspiring folks!

We will be in your neck of the woods the first week of 8th month. If nothing else, we'll see you in Meeting.

Love and Peace,
Craig

I believe that the Representative Body meets on Saturday. (Correct me if I'm wrong here.) The QUIP conference runs until Sunday at lunch, I think. But I will be available in the afternoon and evening on Sunday and all day Monday.

(Craig, the first week of 8th month is Pacific Yearly Meeting's annual sessions. But we should be back in SF for meeting for worship.)

And yes, Rep body is on 7th day. Let's all plan to do lunch together on First day.

Although I won't be in the neighborhood for this, I appreciate that you are want informal fellowship. Some of us cannot afford to attend gatherings, conferences, etc. and the only way we are able to benefit from them is to meet those who have attended over coffee or a meal later on.

Wow, how cool is that?!?

What an opportunity to talk about blogging and to meet some amazing people, both at QUIP and from NCYM(C) Representative Body. It definitely seems to me that your faithfulness in recent years is bearing fruit and that you are being well used.

Blessings,

P.S. Can I add that I have a bit of Quaker envy going on....? Theoretically, I could travel to North Carolina for either or both of these events, but it is my partner's and my 10th anniversary of having met that weekend, and we have some plans of our own.

It will be good to meet you in person. We will be driving in Saturday morning and staying most of the day. Our daughter is also a blogger and she will be coming down from Boston for the QUIP meetings.

Thanks everybody - I'm looking forward to it.

I still haven't received very much information about the weekend plans, but I will be in touch about dinner, and perhaps some worship or worship sharing on Sunday evening.

I'm also thinking about visiting Carolina Friends School on Monday, which I understand is about an hour away. If you have any connections there, please let me know.

I will not be at Friendship that weekend but will be in town. I will be preaching at Spring Meeting if anyone wants to come. I would love to finally be able to get together for one of these dinners. I am free after about 4:30 but might be able to get out of one thing so maybe 3:30 if needed. I can't wait.
Rebecca

Robin,

I wish I could come up to Greensboro to meet you and talk about Convergent (Quaker/Emergent) stuff with you, but it's doubtful that I'll be able to. I've encouraged my Emergent Baptist friends up that way to get in touch though, and hopefully it'll work out for one or more of them to connect with you. I told them they should interview you for a podcast or something to get your thoughts on what is happening in the intersection of Quakerism and Emergentism, so hopefully the rest of us can hear more thoughts from you on that ;-)

Elizabeth and Rebecca, I truly look forward to seeing you in person this time next month.

Steve - I'd be honored to be interviewed, but I'd be more pleased just to meet your friends. There is an email address in my blogger profile if they want to reach me more directly. My east coast geography is so poor - how far is it from Charlotte to Greensboro?

Although I live in Charlotte, I have no way to get to Greensboro, as of now. I would, however, love to have a chance to meet with other Friends (used to get to C.F.M. sometimes, can't these days -- I'm physically disabled, and living on SSI). Have a blessed gathering!

If circumstances change, I'll try to find my way back to this page and plan to meet with y'all.

Carol S., I'm glad you can at least join the conversation here. I'm sure there will be more to write about the gathering. Do you know Steve K., also from Charlotte?

Hey Robin,

Just wanted to follow-up on your geography question: Charlotte is about an hour and a half from Greensboro.

I don't think I know Carol S., but she can contact me at knightopia AT gmail.com.

Shalom,
Steve K.
