New Sign from Faith and Practice

Community is the necessary foundation
for social justice and peace.
As we live in a community
which is committed to honor that of God in all,
we are, as individuals, strengthened
in the work to which we are called.

This is the text of the new sign in the window of the Ninth Street Meetinghouse in San Francisco. I was away on the first of July, so it didn't get changed until yesterday.

I'm curious. What reactions has your Meeting gotten from the signs, if any? Have newcomers attended because of the signs, or don't you know? How have your Meeting attenders responded?

The building manager told me that he sees people stopping to read them as they walk by, and that sometimes they knock on the door to ask for more information. I haven't heard of anyone coming to meeting because they read the signs, but we don't really collect statistics like that. Most of the time when I ask a new attender how they found us, they say through a friend or the internet.

Within the Meeting, there has been very little reaction, but it was all positive. Including that it encouraged other folks to re-start hanging the banners that go up where people can see them when driving by.

I actually think this is a good sign, that no one had an allergic reaction to proselytizing or anything. It encourages me to go farther, be bolder in what we put up.

Originally, it was mainly a chance to encourage the new attender (now member) whose idea it was. We have one more waiting to be put up next month. The committee will meet soon and look at some possibilities for the next series.
